Skateboarding legends Bam Margera and Tony Hawk in front of the Wall Street bull statue
Bam Margera‘s best days might just be ahead of him. After years of struggling, he looked better than he has in decades while skating around lower Manhattan with Tony Hawk.
Bam Margera and Tony Hawk were shredding Wall Street and street ramps in New York City’s financial district as part of a stunt for a financial software company aptly named Ramp, though it has nothing to do with skating. While there, they filmed an episode of Tony Hawk’s video series with Ramp, Tony Stock: Live at the NYSE.
Bam Margera Was All Smiles Skating Around Wall Street With Tony Hawk
Just four years ago, Bam Margera was on a ventilator in the ICU. His life appeared to be trending in a very dark direction. After that, Bam continued to improve but his professional life hit a snag when it seemed as if he was going to be removed entirely from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater until Tony Hawk himself intervened to ensure Bam was included in the game.
Flash forward to now and the two are skating around the Financial District, riding pipes on Wall Street, and living every skater’s dream.
Bums me out that I missed this stunt by just a few days. I was killing time around the Financial District in the rain last weekend and can’t imagine how surprised I would’ve been if I happened to see Bam Margera and Tony Hawk skate by. Though, it’s NYC and the center of the universe so there is no sense in ever being surprised by what you see on any given day.
After skating around the Financial District, Tony Hawk and Bam Margera suited up and hit the halfpipe on Wall Street. Ramp is currently valued at a cool $60 BILLION after a funding round this month so a stunt like this is just a drop of water in the ocean for them:
Seeing Bam Margera healthy and skating regularly again is fantastic. There was a time when it seemed like his (now) 8-year-old daughter might grow up without a dad but he appears to have made sustainable life changes to turn things around.
For the foreseeable future, it does appear as if Bam’s issues with Johnny Knoxville means that Margera will not appear in any future Jackass projects. But he is a pro rider with Zero Skateboards, has residuals coming in from Jackass, Viva la Bam, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater projects. So it would seem that he is taking care of himself and his daughter at the moment which is all anyone in his corner ever wanted for him.
