The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie as the titular Barbie doll and Ryan Gosling as Ken, has been released. The film will hit theaters in the United States on July 21.

In addition to Robbie and Gosling, Barbie stars Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Michael Cera, Will Ferell, America Ferrera, and more.

Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig, the Oscar-nominated actress and filmmaker who previously helmed Best Picture contenders Lady Bird and Little Women. Barbie was also co-written by Gerwig’s partner Noah Baumbach, the frequent Wes Anderson collaborator who has directed films such as Marriage Story and White Noise (which hits Netflix later this month).

Ever since set images leaked over the summer, Barbie has been the subject of meme fodder and is clearly, and wisely, leaning into that fact with its first teaser trailer, which is about as absurd as it gets when you consider this is a film based on toys made for little girls.

Barbie marks yet another big swing from Robbie, who recently starred in both David O. Russell’s Amsterdam and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. In addition to Babylon, Robbie will also be starring in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City next year.

The 42-year-old Gosling also finds himself in a similar position. Having not acted in a film since 2018’s First Man, Gosling returned to the big screen (well, Netflix) earlier this year in The Gray Man. In addition to Barbie, he’s also recently begun production of David Leitch’s (Atomic Blonde) The Fall Guy alongside Emily Blunt.

He’s also attached to films such as The Wolf Man and The Actor, although details surrounding those projects have been sparse since Gosling’s casting was initially reported.
