Little brothers and their friends are, objectively, the worst. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but what if your boyfriend suddenly started acting like the most moronic member of your family? And what if he did it in front of your father when you were trying to have a nice, civilized drink together?
As one internet denizen quipped, “Zero reward, all risk.”
Unfortunately for TikTok creator Connie Halvorsen (@connie.halvoesen)—but fortunately for the rest of us—Halvorsen has first-hand experience in witnessing her boyfriend, André Hammeraas hilariously un-impress her father. So do the 14.3 million people who watched her video.
Chug Chug Chug
In a move that looks straight out of “Dumb and Dumber,” Halvorsen’s father and Hammeraas sit in a cozy bar booth, each with a glass of beer. The clip uses the popular TikTok audio that says, “Oh my God. Oh H— naw.”
The camera then zooms in on Hammeraas, who’s about to engage in some sort of party trick. On-screen text gives a little context as to what is going on. It’s the first time Halvorsen has taken her sweetheart to the bar with her father.
We catch the boyfriend just at the moment he’s stretching his lips around the rim of his pint glass. His tongue is extended and wiggling, as if it’s trying to act as leverage or torque. In a matter of just a few seconds, he’s got his lips sealed around the glass.
Then he upends everything. His goal is clearly to chug the beer before the “seal” breaks. But instead of pounding down the drink, he chokes, spraying beer out of the sides of his mouth like a whale’s blowhole gone wrong.
After this display, the camera pans to Halvorsen’s father. His arms are crossed and he’s shaking his head while frowning. This is not making the impression the young man must’ve hoped for.
‘He’s Just Disappointed’
The internet reacted in a way that makes it clear they side with dad.
“Flew too close to the sun, my friend,” @boro19933 said.
“Gambled his aura and lost,” another wrote.
“Dad said if you’re gonna do it at least do it right,” a third remarked.
But a couple of sharp-eyed users have another theory, noting that as “dad” turned away at the end of the video, he had a small smile on his face. “Nah he smirked he loves this kid,” Cavaloki (@cavaloki) pointed out.
Never Get A Second Chance To Make A First Impression
While it can be incredibly awkward and lead to some social discomfort, it is possible to recover from a bad first impression. According to executive coach and speaker Sylvie di Giusto, consistently making new and better impressions each time you see a person can help repair a bad impression. You can also be honest and apologize. Sometimes, you might even need to recruit a little help to improve your standing. “Have someone else present positive information about you,” she advises.
Whatever the outcome between Halvorsen’s father and her boyfriend, chances are she took it with a laugh. Her TikTok bio lists her boyfriend as her “unpaid intern.” She’s just getting what she paid for.
