The Brendan Fraser comeback tour continued over the weekend, as the 54-year-old actor won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor on Sunday.

While accepting the award — which was given to him for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale — Fraser broke down to the point of tears after being overcome with emotion.

“This movie, The Whale, it’s about love, it’s about redemption. It’s about finding the light in a dark place and I’m so lucky to have worked with an ensemble that is incredible,” Fraser said.

“Darren Aronofsky, I was in the wilderness, and I probably should have left a trail of breadcrumbs, but you’ve found me,” he added. “And like all the best directors, you merely just showed me where to go to get to where I needed to be.”

“If you, like a guy like Charlie, who I played in this movie, in any way, struggle with obesity, or you just feel like you’re in a dark sea. I want you to know that if you too, can have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light. Good things will happen.”

Heading into March’s Academy Awards, Fraser is looking like one of the favorites to win Best Actor alongside Austin Butler.

In addition to Fraser, The Whale also stars Sadie Sink and Hong Chau. Next year, Fraser’s return to Hollywood’s A-list continues when he stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Jesse Plemons in Martin Scorsese’s $200 million Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon. He’s also attached to star alongside Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Taylour Paige, and Glenn Close in a film titled Brothers, which was written by Etan Cohen.
