‘Succession’ Star Brian Cox Sounds Off On ‘Woke And Cancel Culture’

Brian Cox, much like his iconic Succession character Logan Roy, doesn’t mince words and is bluntly honest about how he feels.

That rare level of candor was on display during Cox’s recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, which saw the 77-year-old lament “woke culture” and “cancel culture”.

“I don’t think social media helps. It hinders, not helps. I think it points out too readily inadequacies. And the whole woke, what we’ve talked about before, the whole woke culture is truly awful… and the shaming culture,” Cox said during a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“I don’t know where it comes from. Who are the arbiters of this shaming? And it’s very hard to pin them down, and, it turns out, it’s usually a bunch of millennials. And who gave them the halos? I suppose in a way they’re probably saying, ‘Well you’ve all screwed it up so we may as well do something about it.’ But it’s from the wrong principle. It comes from the wrong place.”

Cox is fresh off of an Emmy nomination for Leading Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Logan Roy in the fourth and final season of HBO’s hit drama series Succession.

Alongside Cox, fellow Succession stars Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are nominated in the Leading Actor in a Drama Series category, in addition to Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us).

Following his acclaimed stint on Succession, Cox will next be seen in projects such as the Netflix film The Electric State, which stars Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown. He’s also attached to projects such as Skelly, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Unsinkable, The Parenting, Little Wing, and Riff Raff.

All four seasons of Succession — which also unsurprisingly earned a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series — are currently streaming on Max.
