For the past several years, Britney Spears has been regularly posting pics of herself nude or wearing almost no clothing on Instagram.
It has been cause for concern for many of the pop star’s fans as, well, it’s not really normal behavior for someone with such a high profile and record of mainstream entertainment success as Britney Spears.
Now, in her new memoir, The Woman in Me, she explains why she is always sharing those nude pics of herself on social media.
In an excerpt from her book shared by the New York Times, the 41-year-old mother of two shared, “I know that a lot of people don’t understand why I love taking pictures of myself naked or in new dresses.
“But I think if they’d been photographed by other people thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people’s approval, they’d understand that I get a lot of joy from posting the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture.”
While that may be true, her decision to post those provocative Instagram pics and videos has come with a cost.
Her sons, Preston, 18, and Jayden, 17, reportedly shunned her over them, not seeing her for over a year.
“It’s almost like she has to post something on Instagram to get attention,” Jayden told ITV last year. “This has gone on for years and years and there’s a high probability that it will never really end.”
Then, this past July, it was reported by TMZ that Jayden and Sean had moved to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline and his wife Victoria without saying good bye to Britney.
Spears’ consistent stream of nude or nearly nude Instagram pics and videos first started to cause concern about her mental well-being back in 2021.
Back then, in response to the comments on a series of topless photos, Britney wrote, “I bet you’re wondering why I’d expose my body NOW … well it’s because I was born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the would has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way!!!!
“I wanted to see myself in a lighter way … naked … like the way I was born and to me looking back at my pictures when I shoot it’s insane the psychology in seeing myself in my purest form gives evidence that pain … hurt … tears … and heavy burdens aren’t who I am. I am a woman … a beautiful … sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form!!!
“No … I’m not going to do topless pics for the rest of my life cause that would get boring but it sure as hell helps when you need to be enlightened!!!!”
Over two years later, Britney Spears must still be feeling the need to be “enlightened” on a regular basis.
