The Michael Jackson biopic isn’t really a biopic at all, as it ignores one of the most notable facets of his life: the numerous allegations of child abuse made against him over the years.

In 1993, 13-year-old Jordan Chandler accused Michael Jackson of molestation before the case was eventually settled out of court for a reported $23 million. Jackson was never criminally charged in connection with this case.

Then, about a decade later, Jackson was criminally charged with child molestation, conspiracy, and administering an intoxicating agent to a minor involving then-13-year-old Gavin Arvizo and was acquitted on all 14 counts in June 2005.

This week, clips of MJ discussing his affinity for sharing his bed with young boys have been going viral on social media.

Michael star Colman Domingo said that none of the allegations made about MJ are addressed in the film because there “could be a sequel”

None of that is broached in Michael, which conveniently cuts off in 1988. When asked about that fact, co-stars Colman Domingo and Nia Long suggested that they were withheld from this movie because it could be tackled in a potential sequel: a response that’s getting them ripped on social media.

“The film takes place from the ’60s to 1988, so it does not go into the first allegations. So basically, we centered it on the makings of Michael. So, it’s an intimate portrait of who Michael is … through his eyes. So, that’s what it is, that’s what this film is,” Domingo explained on The Today Show alongside co-star Nia Long.

“And there’s a possibility of there being a part two that may deal with some other things that happened afterwards. This is about the making of Michael, how he was raised, and then how he was trying to find his voice as an artist and be a solo artist. That’s what I have to say about that… There could be a sequel. We don’t know yet.”

Michael stars MJ’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the titular role alongside Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Krue Valdi, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.
