A Domino's customer (@sdsocal) has gone viral after sharing their confusion over the medium and large pizzas they ordered.
If you want to treat yourself to a night off cooking, there’s nothing better than Domino’s. However, after spending $31 on an order, one customer was left disappointed.
As reported by BroBible, Domino’s has previously gone viral. This has been over its employees giving too much change or trying to substitute a pizza for cheese bread. Still, this sizing issue is probably the most baffling.
The TikTok shows the user filming two boxes of Domino’s, with on-screen text saying, “Isn’t a large pizza supposed to be bigger than a medium pizza or are we not on earth?”
“Come on, Domino’s,” the TikToker, @sdsocal, says.
The woman with him then asks him if he is going to post this. In turn, she opens the box on the right, explaining that while the pizza was free, she upgraded to a large for $3.50.
Inside the box is a pizza with considerable gaps around the edges, which arguably makes the pizza look smaller.
Then, on the left is a pizza in a smaller box—a similar size to the pizza on the right.
Side by side, they don’t look too different.
“Which one is the large?” the man asks.
“I would say the bigger box,” the woman replies.
Addressing Domino’s directly, the TikToker adds, “We rely on you a couple times a month to bail us out of making dinner some nights, and tonight we were flabbergasted. We ordered a large pizza and a medium pizza. The pizza in the large box was smaller than the medium pizza in the smaller box. Come on, Domino’s! My poor mother.”
The video garnered 237,200 views. BroBible reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message and Domino’s via email.
How Did This Happen?
Commenters largely didn’t agree.
“Mis-box,” one wrote. “Just call the store and have them fix it rather than trying to destroy a business for clout.”
“You got exactly what you ordered the boxes are just mixed up,” a second claimed.
“It’s called a ‘mistake,’ a third said. “Normal people make them occasionally.”
While a fourth commented, “There’s a medium in the large box, a large in a medium box… it’s all there.”
In a further comment, the TikToker shared a picture of their Domino’s receipt, which included a 14-inch and 12-inch pizza, among other things, for $31. The toppings on the large listed on the receipt correlated with the toppings on the pizza in the large box. And the same goes for the medium pizza.
So it’s unlikely workers simply put the large pizza in the medium box and put the medium pizza in the large box.
Is There Shrinkflation At Domino’s?
On Reddit, one disgruntled customer suggested that Domino’s menu items have fallen victim to shrinkflation. On their post, they explained how they used to order the cheesy bread a few years ago. However, since then, they claim the treat has reduced in size. They shared a photo of the cheesy bread, which took up approximately two-thirds of the box, with an ample amount of space around it.
“It used to almost fill the box,” they complained. “I looked up posts about shrinkflation before posting this and this is not a case of it being rolled out differently. It is the same thickness(depth) and width but like 40% shorter! And this has been the size the last 3x we have ordered, so it’s not a one time mistake on our order.”
“I know this isn’t only a Domino’s thing, but I hate feeling like I’m being shorthanded or upcharged on everything I buy nowadays.”
