Alcohol is (for better or worse) engrained in the culture of countries around the world, and the United States is certainly no exception.

Sure, America boasts plenty of puritanical “dry” counties primarily located in the South in addition to the entire state of Utah, but areas where the majority of people look down on the consumption of adult beverages are certainly the exception as opposed to the norm.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are plenty of places where a sizeable percentage of residents would probably list “Drinking” as one of their primary hobbies—especially those who earned a spot near the top of the list of the “Drunkest Cities in America” that was recently put together by the folks at 24/7 Wall Street.

It’s safe to say one state has cornered the market in that particular metric (which is based on the number of people who drink excessively, the number of automotive deaths involving alcohol, and the number of bars and restaurants per capita), as a pretty obvious trend emerges when you take a look at a Top 10 that consists of the following locales:

  1. Green Bay, Wisconsin
  2. Eau Claire, Wisconsin
  3. Appleton, Wisconsin
  4. Madison, Wisconsin
  5. Fargo, North Dakota
  6. Oshkosh, Wisconsin
  7. Missoula, Montana
  8. Grand Forks, North Dakota
  9. Wausau, Wisconsin
  10. La Crosse, Wisconsin

While North Dakota did what it could to hang with the Badger State, it has nothing on the Wisconsin residents who have firmly laid claim to the “Drunkest State in America” label with the help of the Spotted Cows and brandy Old Fashioneds that helped them secure the crown.

If you’re curious about the driest cities in America, Utah unsurprisingly took the top two spots courtesy of the teetotalers in Provo and St. George, while a couple of cities in West Virginia (Beckley and Charleston) and Jackson, Tennessee rounded out the top five in that particular category.
