Ewan McGregor Calls The Drama Around The Obi-Wan Series ‘Bullsh*t’

This morning, we brought you the news that the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series was being delayed over concerns that its story was too similar to that of The Mandalorian.

According to reports, Lucasfilm president and series producer Kathleen Kennedy was not happy with the scripts penned by screenwriter Hossein Amini, as the story of Obi-Wan protecting a young Luke Skywalker was reportedly deemed to be too similar to the plot of The Mandalorian, which featured Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin watching over our king Baby Yoda.

However, while speaking at the premiere of Birds of Prey this week, McGregor brushed aside the perceived script drama as “bullshit.”

“It’s not as nearly as dramatic as it sounds online,” said McGregor while speaking to the press at the premiere of Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey.

“The scripts are really good. I saw 90% of the writing and I really liked it,” McGregor said. “All this bulls— about creative differences and all that stuff, none of it is true. We just pushed the dates … last episode, [Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker] came out, everyone had more time to read the stuff that had been written, and they felt that they wanted to do more work on it.” [via ComicBook]

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most popular characters in Star Wars lore and McGregor remains a bonafide A-lister, so there’s no chance that the Mouse House gives up on this project anytime soon. Plus, given that The Mandalorian has been one of Disney’s most successful swings at the Star Wars universe thus far, they’d be wise to continue to expand the galaxy far, far away in a way that’s now been proven to work.
