The promise of leaked private photos and videos of actress Sydney Sweeney is being used to spread malware and viruses across social media, according to a new report.
While there are no real adult videos of Sweeney on the internet, a report from 404 Media has revealed that links to such videos are being used to spread malware, specifically on the website formerly known as Twitter.
“As reported by 404 Media, during the height of all this discourse, ‘Sydney Sweeney leak’ became a top trending topic on X. Even almost a week later, it’s still one of the very first suggested searches that appear in the search bar if you start looking up the actor on the social media site.”
“Searching for her name will return a mix of results that often feature links to ‘leaked sex’ videos starring the popular Euphoria star sprinkled between random posts and news about Sweeney.” [via Kotaku]
If you are searching for one of these terms on Twitter, you’ll wind up on a Linktree page that contains purported links to download these false pictures and videos. Clicking on any of these links would then lead to potential malware being downloaded onto your device.
Sweeney has become one of the most popular actresses in the world in recent years thanks to her performances in The White Lotus, Euphoria, Reality, Madame Web, and Anyone But You. Anyone But You has been a particularly big hit for Sweeney as the 2023 rom-com has grossed over $200 million at the global box office and is in line for a potential sequel.
The 26-year-old blonde bombshell has also become a pop cultural sex symbol given her willingness to film scenes in her birthday suit, which she has famously done in the TV series Euphoria and the films The Voyeurs and Anyone But You.
Just over the weekend, for example, Sweeney earned comparisons to Marilyn Monroe after she showed up to Vanity Fair’s Oscars afterparty in a dress reminiscent of the Hollywood icon.
