Mark your calendars! Cocaine Bear hits theaters on February 24, 2023. This is a real movie and it’s actually inspired by a true story after a bear ate a duffel bag full of cocaine in 1985. 38 years later and the world finally gets to see Cocaine Bear on the silver screen.
Make no mistake about it, this film about a bear that accidentally does a bunch of cocaine is going to be great. It is directed by Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels, Pitch Perfect 2) and it stars the late great Ray Liotta, Keri Russell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju who played Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones and others.
The very first poster for Cocaine Bear was released on Monday, November 28th. The first-look trailer is expected to drop imminently. But the first trailer for the coked-up bear movie delivers on exactly what the title says it’s going to be about:

This will be one of the last films Ray Liotta is featured in. And it’s the first film he’ll be featured in posthumously.
The premise for Cocaine Bear is simple yet it opens up a world of opportunities. The tagline on Wikipedia is ‘In a Kentucky forest, an American black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.’ Similarly, the tagline on IMDB is ‘It tells the story of a drug runner whose plane crashes with a load of cocaine that’s found by a black bear, who eats it.’
It’s hard to overstate just how difficult it would be to explain the effects of a bear eating a duffel bag full of cocaine. Human nature is to anthropomorphize everything and attribute a human experience with cocaine to a bear. But bears don’t possess language or communication skills beyond displays of aggression/hunger/etc, so we don’t have the words to accurately describe what a bear might be thinking or feeling on coke.
All that is to say that this film sure as heck is going to try. We’re about to get the FULL Hollywood experience of a bear on blow and it’s going to be incredible. The response to this film’s poster reveals just how ready the world is for this project:

And this is where we are. From a true story that inspired a film, but in the meantime it became a meme, and now it’s coming to real-life. Apologies for profanity on this meme for anyone that’s bothered by that:
