This ‘Game Of Thrones’ Fan Theory Would Be The Bittersweet Ending Queen Cersei Deserves

Game Of Thrones Cersei Jaime

HBO

I suspect that as we march towards the 8th season of HBO’s Game of Thrones we’ll be forced to navigate a minefield of spoilers, but this isn’t that. This is a fan theory which might predict how the Game of Thrones will come to a close.

The forthcoming 8th season of Game of Thrones is the final season and as fans, we expect a lot of answers when it’s all said and done. The 8th season will only consist of SIX episodes, which makes it far and away the shortest Game of Thrones season yet. Well, maybe. That’s in terms of the number of episodes. There’s a solid chance that each of these 6 episodes will run well over 1-hour (possibly into 2).

Now, there are some *potential spoilers ahead* if you’re not caught up on HBO’s Game of Thrones. The theory below relates to how everything will end so you’ll have to have some sense of where things are at the moment.

If you aren’t caught up through last season you might want to go watch the show before reading on.

Moving on….

Where’d we leave off last season? Well, that goddamn ice dragon was killing people left and right. Jon Snow and Queen Daenerys Stormborn were knocking boots on the boat getting all hot and steamy. The plot was really moving along.

But the idea is there can *ONLY BE ONE QUEEN (or king)* in Westeros. Queen Daenerys Targaryen is the *rightful heir* to the Iron Throne but Queen Cersei is occupying that perch and willing to defend her throne with fire and brimstone. That’s within the city limits.

Up North, there’s the Night King and his army of zombies marching south to kill all of Westeros.

This fan’s theory on how it will all play out would make for a bittersweet ending but one I can 100% see happening, both in terms of the plotline and aesthetically. I can literally envision Cersei ending up like this in my mind (via alacer88 on Reddit):

What if the GoT finale would see everyone leaving Westeros and finding a safe place in Essos, where Daenerys is the only Queen. We know from the last episodes that the dead and the white walkers cannot swim (except the ones who rescue the dragon from the bottom of the frozen lake for tying the chains).

Therefore, it may be possible that the humans will lose the war with the Night King, who will destroy all the seven kingdom, including Kingslanding (and probably Cersei). The theory is that the Champions of the Light will probably sacrificate himself form letting the other escape the continent.

The last scene would be Cersei opening her blue eyes as the Night Queen …

This.

Could.

Happen.

Taking this on a completely surface level, just look at the picture above. You can easily imagine her as a White Walker wearing a crown alongside the Night King.

It’d be a fitting ending for the coldest character in the show’s history. The woman who has seen the complete and utter demise of her family all while remaining steadfast in her need to occupy the Iron Throne.

To be honest, I have no idea whatsoever how the show will end. I read all the books, I’ve watched and rewatched all of the episodes. But I haven’t gotten around to thinking about how everything might wrap up.

I think I’m partially in denial that Game of Thrones is finally ending and I’m avoiding thinking about *how* it will end simply because I don’t want to face the fact that the most successful Fantasy TV show in history is almost over.

I’m curious what you all think about his fan theory. Do you think it’s legit? Do you think the roles could be reversed and Daenerys is the Night Queen while Cersei saves the Westerosi and leads them across the Narrow Sea?

You can get loud down below in the comments.
