‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Star Glen Powell Shares Awesome Story Of Jon Hamm Taking The Cast Out To Dinner

Glen Powell Shares Story Of Jon Hamm Taking The Cast Out To Dinner

Paramount Pictures

Prior to the release of Top Gun: Maverick, I was lucky enough to interview Jon Hamm for a solid 15 minutes. And while we barely even spoke for half an hour, he’s just one of those guys that you can tell is simply a *good dude*. Maybe it’s midwesterner in him. He just comes across as a regular joe despite his aggressive good looks and decade-plus-long A-list career.

As it turns out, my gut feeling about Hamm’s character was absolutely character as a pair of viral stories this past week have only further illustrated how excellent of a guy he is. The first is in regard to his new comedy Confess, Fletch, which saw the actor sacrifice 60% of his salary in order for the film to get made.

Upon hearing this story, Hamm’s Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell hoped on Twitter to share another anecdote that highlights just how awesome Hamm is: when Top Gun began filming in San Diego, Hamm took the “young guns” (presumably all of the fighter pilot actors not named Tom Cruise) out to dinner while also extending an open-door policy.

Glen Powell reveals that Jon Hamm took the Top Gun: Maverick cast out to dinner when the movie first started shooting

“As soon as we got to San Diego to shoot Top Gun: Maverick, Jon Hamm treated all the “young guns” to dinner and let us know his trailer door was always open for advice or sports games,” Powell tweeted.

“Hamm is a great teammate and this reminds me how cool it is to watch a legend put skin in the game.”

Given that Top Gun: Maverick is now one of the Top 10 highest-grossing American films in history, we have a feeling that Hamm can afford a cast dinner here and there. Even still, that doesn’t take away from the fact that he will always come across as just a regular joe (who also happens to be a wildly talented and handsome actor).

If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, Top Gun: Maverick is now available on major digital platforms to rent or purchase.
