The N64 provided plenty of ’90s Kids with a peek at the future thanks to graphics that were viewed as truly revolutionary at the time, and the console was also the source of countless memories (and undying grudges) for an entire generation of players thanks to the many classic titles it boasted.

That includes GoldenEye 007, the 1997 adaptation of the James Bond film that hit theaters a couple of years before the release of the iconic video game. GoldenEye not only gave players the chance to step into the shoes of the secret agent while recreating some of the missions from the movie (and unlocking some amazing cheats in the process) but also featured an addictive multiplayer option capable of spawning some heated disagreements over accusations of screen-peeking and whether or not it was cheating to play as Oddjob.

Nowadays, there’s no way to revisit the game unless you have an N64 and a working copy of GoldenEye (or are willing to settle for a legally dubious emulator). However, last year, someone unearthed a remastered version that was developed for the Xbox 360 but never saw the light of day, and in January, we were treated to a fairly exciting development after a list of achievements was unexpectedly discovered on the Microsoft Store.

Now, a new clue has emerged that suggests it could only be a matter of time until a GoldenEye remaster drops. According to VGC, Danjaq—a company that possesses the bulk of the various licenses that would need to be cleared ahead of a rerelease—recently renewed a previously-claimed trademark for “downloadable electronic game software” as it relates to the title.

The outlet claims it’s spoken with sources who believe the remaster could be announced “imminently,” so while only time will tell if that will in fact be the case, this is certainly an intriguing development.
