Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly displayed incredible comedic chemistry in 2006’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The success of the NASCAR comedy showed that they piss excellence when they team up. The uproarious duo then worked their magic again in 2008’s Step Brothers. The double trouble of funny reunite and go way, way back in the new Holmes and Watson movie.

The deadpanning detective duo take on the roles of Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. John Watson. But instead of the two characters being genius forensic scientists, Ferrell and Reilly’s characters are bumbling detectives who stumble their way to solving crimes in the nineteenth century. But they will manage to invent the selfie in the 1800’s. There is of course a “no shit Sherlock” joke. Did we just become best friends to solve murders?

In Holmes and Watson, the sleuth and doctor will need to save the Queen of England from the film’s villain — Professor Moriarty, played by Ralph Fiennes. Helping the goofy crime-solvers is Dr. Grace Hart, played by Rebecca Hall. The couple will also have to battle killer bees and hold their own in a bare-knuckle boxing match. Which won’t be easy since WWE star Braun Strowman is one of the combatants. The movie based on one of Britain’s greatest literary figures also stars Kelly Macdonald, Hugh Laurie, Lauren Lapkus, Steve Coogan, and Rob Brydon.

Holmes & Watson sneaks into theaters on December 21st.

So now we have to ask, will there be a Step Brothers 2? “We talked a little bit about Step Brothers,” Ferrell said a year ago. “So who knows? But, at the same time, you like to create new things.”

There might be a good chance in a Step Brothers sequel because a plot has been discussed and it sounds as sweet as a combination of Fergie and Jesus.

“We talked about Step Brothers and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things,” said Ferrell. “We had a whole story where John (C. Reilly) and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well.”

“The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny,” Ferrell said of making sequels. “The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.”

That sounds better than wrestling a giraffe to the ground with your bare hands.
