The internet has made it easier than ever to become a celebrity overnight, and while that term is usually used somewhat figuratively, it can be deployed pretty literally to describe the rise of Bob Menery, who was virtually unknown until some viral videos thrust him into the spotlight and eventually led to him being involved in some juicy online drama.

Bob Menery may not be a household name, but if you spend enough time on the internet, you’re probably familiar with the personality who helped The Nelk Boys get their Full Send podcast off of the ground before the two sides found themselves dealing with a somewhat messy divorce.

Using “celebrity” to describe the online personality may be a bit generous, but he’s nonetheless done pretty well for himself since harnessing his comedy chops to garner the attention he managed to take full advantage of.

Even if you’re familiar with Menery, you may not be intimately familiar with his origin story, and if you’re looking to fill those gaps in your knowledge, you’ve come to the right place.

Menery (who was born in 1987) was raised in Massachusetts and had a reputation as a bit of a class clown when he was growing up. He was a diehard fan of Boston sports who had a tendency to entertain his friends by providing his own play-by-play commentary while watching games—a pastime that would eventually lead to his big break.

After graduating from high school, Menery headed down to New York City to pursue a career in acting but quickly discovered he was on a different wavelength than most of his peers. While he could have honed his comedic chops on the NYC scene, he decided Los Angeles would be a more appropriate proving ground for his personality, so he headed out to the West Coast to see if he had what it took.

Unfortunately, he quickly discovered the brutal reality of trying to make it in L.A. As is the case with many people who willingly burden themselves with the Struggling Actor life, the longtime golfer got a Real Job to support himself by working as a caddie at Wilshire Country Club.

The gig at the exclusive course allowed him to rub shoulders with the likes of Will Ferrell and Aaron Rodgers while slowly but surely building a network of connections. However, he found himself living out of his car for months on end after his roommate moved out of the state, and after doing some soul-searching (he’d also been dealing with some substance abuse issues), he decided to head back home in 2017 to get a fresh start at the age of 28.

Menery’s go-to icebreaker after meeting new people was pulling out his “announcer voice,” and he’d been back in Massachusetts for around a week when he crossed paths with a guy named David Justin, who decided to whip out his phone and film some clips of the schtick before posting them online.

Justin sent the clips to BroBible (this very website) and we posted them before they quickly appeared on outlets across the country (one dubbed him “The Man With The Golden Voice”). Just like that, Menery had gotten his first taste of viral fame—literally overnight.

While some people who end up in that position turn out to be a flash in the pan, Menery realized he had an opportunity and was determined to capitalize. He continued to pump out videos where he channeled his inner broadcaster while networking with social media accounts that were able to amplify them, and slowly but surely amassed a sizeable following of his own on Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms.

Menery eventually branched out beyond fake commentary (although his “Golden Voice” landed him a gig with Buffalo Wild Wings) while focusing on the golf and party content that would serve as the foundation of his personal brand.

He eventually found himself in the orbit of The Nelk Boys, the collective of YouTubers he teamed up with to help launch Full Send in 2021. While it was a pretty lucrative venture for Menery, he clearly felt he deserved more compensation than he received based on what he had to say after their partnership came to a somewhat public end in 2022, as he asserted he played a pivotal role in helping them land notable guests while leveraging his personal connections.

Prior to that point, Menery had already entered the podcasting world with Ripper Magoo, which he revived following his split with the Nelks but has seemingly placed on the back burner as he continues to post to an Instagram account with close to 3.5 million followers on a regular basis.
