Earlier this year, comic book movie fans lost their collective minds when it was not only announced that Hugh Jackman would be returning to the role of Wolverine, but that he’d be doing so alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3.

Given that Jackman’s Wolverine is one of the most iconic characters in the history of the genre, fans were obviously thrilled to hear that the 54-year-old Aussie decided to don the adamantium claws one final time.

Still, despite the jubilation, there was one lingering concern that fans had: how will his reintroduction affect Logan, the beloved Oscar-nominated film that was supposed to serve as Jackman’s send-off back in 2017? Jackman recently addressed that very question during an interview on SiriusXM.

“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines,” Jackman said during a recent interview on SiriusXM when asked about how his return affects Logan.

“Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

At this time, Deadpool 3 — directed by Free Guy and Stranger Things filmmaker Shawn Levy — is set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024, which would place it in the MCU’s Phase 5.

While plot and casting details have been kept under wraps, there have been recent rumors that Owen Wilson’s Mobius — a fan-favorite that first appeared in the hit Disney+ series Loki — could have a key role in the film. Perhaps Mobius and the TVA are the “device” that Jackman is referring to.

As for what fans can expect next from the MCU, Phase 5 is set to kick off in February with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
