‘Euphoria’ Star Jacob Elordi Turned Down Superman Audition For A Reason That Suggests He Doesn’t Know Who Superman Is

Now that he’s starring as Elvis Presley in Sophia Coppola’s Priscilla, Euphoria and The Kissing Both star Jacob Elordi is reaching a whole new level of recognition now that he’s displayed he can be a “serious” actor.

With Priscilla now playing in movie theaters, and Elordi receiving rave reviews for his performance, the 26-year-old Aussie was the subject of a recent wide-ranging GQ profile that touched on where the up-and-coming movie star has been and where he’s going.

One of the most interesting tidbits, however, is about a role that Elordi ultimately passed on, as he revealed that he turned down the chance to audition for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy (the role ultimately went to David Corenswet, an American).

“They asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me,” Elordi explained.

Now, to be fair to Elordi, the previous cinematic version of Superman was quite dark, as he famously snapped General Zod’s neck in his first movie (Man of Steel) and was killed in his second (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice).

However, that version of Superman is one of the few to be so dark — the character is literally iconic due to his aw-shucks farm boy optimism, thus making Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill’s interpretation so controversial.

Even if the character was too dark for Elordi, turning down even the chance to audition for one of the most famous parts in popular culture seems shortsighted regardless of how confident he may be in his career prospects.

In addition to Corenswet as Superman, The Marvelous Ms. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan was cast as Lois Lane. At this time, Superman: Legacy — which will be the first film in the DCU and is set to begin production this spring — is scheduled to hit movie theaters on July 11, 2025.
