Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO are getting a divorce. The “mutual” parting of ways gets even more awkward after the country music artist performed a cover of Nickelback at CMA Fest in Nashville, just a few weeks after he broke up with his soon-to-be ex-wife.
This is not a new thing.
However, there seems to be a deeper meaning to this choice of music. What is the connection between this specific song from this specific band and the soon-to-be divorced couple? I would really like to know. It keeps coming up…
Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO are getting a divorce.
The dynamic between Jason DeFord and Alisa Andrea DeFord has always been uniquely complicated. Jason, who is better known as Jelly Roll, weighed more than 500 pounds and was living on the road when they first met. Alisa, who is better known as Bunnie XO, worked as a high-end escort prior to their relationship. She continued to book dates with clients when they started dating.
It was not traditional. People didn’t get it. They didn’t care.
Jelly Roll proposed to Bunnie XO in 2016. The latter helped the former to get custody of his daughter from a previous relationship and she has lived with them ever since. They made their own family. It worked for them!
Bunnie XO even stayed with Jelly Roll through his months-long affair in 2018. She had his back.
Fast forward to February. Jelly Roll won a Grammy Award. He could not hold back tears as he thanked his wife for changing his life. He often spoke highly of her.
“I want to thank my beautiful wife. I would have never changed my life without you. I would’ve ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn’t for you and Jesus. I thank you for that.”
Meanwhile, Bunnie XO has been very vocal about her IVF journey and their hope to one day welcome a child of their own. She called him the “coolest dude ever” during an interview back in January, right before the Grammys. She also spoke about her marriage to Jelly Roll and what she has learned.
“When you grow up in a childhood like what I had, you thrive in chaos and it was really hard for me the first two or three years to not pick a fight with him or try to get that push and pull of toxicity that I had in every other relationship. And he’s just been such a steady, just beacon of light in my life. And I just love that man. He’s just the best.”
Something has changed over the last few months. They broke up in May and are getting a divorce. Jelly Roll hired one of the best attorney in Nashville. Moving trucks were spotted at their house earlier this week.
A source told People Magazine that the split does not stem from one single incident.
“”He’s very focused on his future, his health and being around for a long time. There wasn’t a moment where everything fell apart. They still love each other but were no longer on the same page about certain things, including what they wanted their future to look like. People saw the public side of things, but there was a lot more going on privately.”
I do not know whether the source came from Jelly Roll’s side or Bunnie XO’s side. Either way, the divorce is underway.
What does Nickelback have to do with it?
I wrote a full article yesterday about Jelly Roll’s lawyer. It also included a tidbit about Bunnie XO’s cryptic post on Instagram.
She posted a video to social media with the song ‘How You Remind Me’ by Nickelback. The caption read: “Banger 💋”
A fan commented on the post to recall the time when Jelly Roll sang that song at the Comedy Store as a surprise guest. Bunnie commented back to say “he always butchers Nickelback & Creed.” Shots fired!
Her original post also seemed like an intentional jab at the divorce. The newly-separated couple has a well-documented history with Nickelback. They rocked out together at a concert in 2024. Jelly later joined the band on stage at Stagecoach.
They even have an inside joke about the “quesadilla” ad-lib.
He often plays a cover of ‘How You Remind Me’ at his shows. This was back in October:
Chad Kroeger, the lead singer of Nickelback, even surprised Jelly Roll at one of his shows in 2025.
Bunnie also got to hang out with Kroeger back in May— apparently after she and Jelly Roll had already decided not to stay married. She posted the following video with the following caption, which caused a lot of chatter on the internet:
And then Jelly Roll played ‘How You Remind Me’ during a pop-up set at his bar in Nashville during CMA Fest earlier this month. It is the same song that Bunnie posted on Instagram after their divorce was made public earlier this week.
I don’t know what this means, nor will I pretend to know what this means, but I would like to know! Was this “their song” together? Is this a veiled jab? Was it a coincidence? Is there something more to it?
The Nickelback connection seems too deep not to read any further into it. Right???
