John Leguizamo says the money from 'Ice Age' changed his life
John Leguizamo has been voicing Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise since 2002. He says that job has changed his life.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on his press tour for The Odyssey, John Leguizamo opened up about what 24 years of voicing the franchise’s most beloved character has actually meant for his life.
According to Leguizamo, his Ice Age gig not only allowed him to pursue what he wanted to do professionally, but also paid for his kids’ college educations and bought him a couple of houses.

“Ice Age allowed me to be as funny as I want to be. I got to be hilarious and so silly and create this incredible character and creature. It paid my bills, so I could be a theater actor,” Leguizamo said.
“Now we got the sixth coming up. The longest-running animated movie franchise in the history of animated movies. It paid my bills. It got me a second and a triple home. It paid for my kids’ college.”
More specifically, the real estate included a New York brownstone and a beachfront house in the Hamptons — both acquired after the third film, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, when Leguizamo had enough leverage to negotiate significantly better than the scale he was paid for the 2002 original.
The Ice Age franchise has grossed $3.2 billion worldwide across five films. Leguizamo will return as Sid alongside Ray Romano, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, and Jennifer Lopez in the sixth installment, Ice Age: Boiling Point, which hits theaters February 5, 2027.
Leguizamo most recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey as Eumaeus, a blind swineherd and Odysseus’s faithful servant.
