John Wick: Chapter 4 had its official premiere at SXSW earlier this week and virtually all of the reviews have been rapturous, with one review even claiming it’s the best American action movie since 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
In their review of the film, IndieWire made that very claim, which puts the fourth chapter in the John Wick series among the pantheon of all-time great action movies.
That isn’t the only glowing review of John Wick: Chapter 4, though: having personally seen it myself, I tweeted last week that it’s virtually a perfect action movie, with the set pieces being truly revelatory and the only downside being the extensive High Table-related exposition.
The set pieces in #JohnWick4 are revelatory. The comedy is perfectly timed. Keanu might say less than ever. It’s almost a perfect action movie.
EXCEPT the franchise has gotten too up its ass with the High Table stuff. Plot simplicity is what makes these films so accessible. https://t.co/V8bLh9qxfj

Across the pond, the BBC agrees as they conclude that John Wick: Chapter 4 “soars above most action films.” The Hollywood Reporter agrees that the stunts in John Wick: Chapter 4 outshone their previous work, and that’s saying something. The Daily Beast also believes John Wick: Chapter 4 is a cut above its peers, saying that it “thrillingly and savagely slays its modern action competition.”
BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast will be interviewing John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski later this week, so make sure to check back later for that.
