While Johnny Knoxville is undoubtedly best known for putting his body through hell for the entertainment of others, the Jackass star has also fashioned himself into a legitimate comedic actor over the last decade or so, as evidenced by his recent role in the Hulu comedy series Rebooted.
In the series — which was bizarrely and unceremoniously canceled by Hulu after just one season (that everyone seemed to love) — Knoxville was acting alongside the likes of Keegan Michael-Key, Paul Reiser, and Judy Greer.
Now that Knoxville’s professional calendar is free, the 51-year-old is likely in the market for a new job, which could result in him calling in a favor from his friend Mike White, the creator and writer of the hit HBO series The White Lotus.
During a recent interview with Vulture, in fact, Knoxville — while discussing his relationship with White — might have let slip where season three will be located: Tokyo.
“Mike White is a very close friend of mine. He and I had been in Tokyo together. I think that’s where the next… oh, I’m not giving anything away. I might call him again as soon as this is over.”
Tokyo would track with recent comments made by White, who previously hinted that the third season would be set somewhere in Asia.
“The first season we highlighted money and then the second season is sex and I think the third season, it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality — it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
At this time, no official details about season three of The White Lotus have been confirmed. Given its success and relative ease to produce, though, it’s safe to assume that HBO will begin production on the next batch of episodes as soon as they can.
The first two seasons of The White Lotus are currently streaming on HBO Max.
