Earlier this month, we brought you the first teaser trailer for Kevin Costner’s massive two-part western film Horizon.
The film has made headlines for numerous reasons, the most notable of which being the rumored drama it caused on the set of Yellowstone, resulting in the series currently being suspended in Hollywood purgatory as they have yet to shoot the second half of their fifth and final season.
According to reports, friction has developed between Costner and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan after the former began focusing his attention on Horizon and thus having issues with the production schedule of Yellowstone.
Additionally, Horizon also represents a massive personal risk for Costner, as it has been previously reported that the 68-year-old Academy Award winner mortgaged 10 acres of a $50 million, oceanfront Santa Barbara property in order to acquire further funding for the project.
New court documents obtained by Fox News have revealed that Costner was paid $24 million in total ($12M for Chapter 1 and $12M for Chapter 2) to produce, direct, and star in Horizon and also has profit participation in the project, which means he’ll receive money on the back end depending on how it performs.
“Kevin’s total compensation for acting, producing, and directing in Horizon 1 is approximately $12,000,000, and for Horizon 2 is approximately $12,000,000, most of which he voluntarily deferred,” court documents stated.
“Kevin estimates that this money will ‘waterfall’ back to him starting in late next year. Kevin also has a profit participation in Horizon 1 and 2, which is yet another source of income.”
Costner, who is in the midst of a divorce case with his wife Christine Baumgartner, also said that Paramount offered him $24 million for a fifth, sixth, and seventh season of their hit series Yellowstone, which has helped revitalize his career

Horizon, which also stars The film boasts an ensemble cast that features the likes of Costner Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi, Sienna Miller, Jamie Campbell Bower, Thomas Haden Church, Luke Wilson, and more alongside Costner, will be hitting theaters next summer.
Chapter 1 will be hitting movie theaters on June 28, 2024, and will then be followed by Chapter 2 on August 16, 2024.
