Nature Is Metal: Lake Michigan Is Filled With Giant Shards Of Ice, Looks Straight Out Of ‘Game Of Thrones’

Sometimes nature just up and does things that blow our puny human minds.

This week she’s putting on a show on the water of Lake Michigan as huge shards of ice are piling up creating scenes that look like something straight out of Game of Thrones.

Pictures of the ice taken by Joel Bissell of are going viral on the internet because, well, they’re absolutely incredible.

Forbes explains…

Despite its initial appearance, the ice shards are a result of Lake Michigan melting. As the frozen lake melts, the liquid water waves below the ice push broken pieces of ice against one another along the coastline. The stacked pattern of broken lake ice formed incredible patterns associated with the movement of waves below the ice.

Despite the ice creating some fantastically gorgeous scenes, it’s definitely not safe.

“No ice is safe ice especially this time of year,” U.S. Coast Guard BMC Grant Heffner told “The ice is certainly deteriorating and breaking up.”

The warmer weather is also creating something called “pancake ice” on Lake Michigan, which is also an amazing sight to see.

Mother Nature is one hella creative woman.
