Leonardo DiCaprio Was Paid An Absurd Amount Of Money For ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Not only is Martin Scorsese’s new film Killers of the Flower Moon expected to earn Leonardo DiCaprio another Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, but he also apparently made quite the paycheck.

According to a report from Puck News, the 48-year-old A-lister took home $40 million for his performance in the lead role of Ernest Burkheart, which would certainly help explain why AppleTV+ spent $200 million on it.

DiCaprio reportedly has a net worth of around $300 million, therefore making his earnings from Killers of the Flower Moon about 13% of his total net worth.

While Killers of the Flower Moon isn’t even going to come close to breaking even (it has made $121 million at the time of this writing), that also wasn’t the goal for Apple, as they not only have enough money but also have shown a commitment to building a library of prestige content.

In addition to DiCaprio, Killers of the Flower Moon — based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by David Grann — also stars Scorsese’s other longtime muse, Robert De Niro. While DiCaprio and De Niro have worked together before, it’s the first time they’ve done so in one of Scorsese’s feature films.

Additional stars include Lily Gladstone — who many think will be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress — Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, and John Lithgow.

Following its theatrical run, Killers of the Flower Moon will begin streaming on AppleTV+. While Apple has yet to confirm when the film will begin streaming, odds are it will be around the holiday season.

According to some reports, Scorsese’s next film — which you better treasure since the man himself said he doesn’t know how many he’s got left in him — is going to be an adaptation of another excellent Grann-written nonfiction novel, The Wager. That, too, is set to star DiCaprio. Currently reading the book myself, it also wouldn’t shock me if Scorsese cast his new pal Timothee Chalamet in the film, as well.
