Earlier this week, the electric full trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another was released, and while film fans were certainly thrilled by how great the movie looks, another narrative seems to be taking hold: Leonardo DiCaprio seems to be turning into Jack Nicholson as he enters his 50s.

Beyond his manic energy in the trailer — which is something he’s brought to his recent performances in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Don’t Look UpLeonardo DiCaprio also appears to be starting to physically resemble the legendary Jack Nicholson.

DiCaprio taking on more Nicholson-esque qualities certainly has some poetry to it, as DiCaprio, similar to Jack was for many decades, is not only considered to be “the guy” in Hollywood but was also a notorious playboy.

“Another jittery dirtbag for Leo. He may never play a heartthrob again, legend stuff out of the Nicholson playbook,” said the Head of Content at Bill Simmons’ The Ringer.

“Leo has gone full Jack Nicholson and I love it.”

“The older Leo gets, the more he resembles Jack Nicholson.”

“Leo’s transformation into Jack Nicholson is nearing completion.”

“Leo reminding so much of Jack Nicholson.”

In addition to DiCaprio, One Battle After Another — Paul Thomas Anderson’s first film since 2021’s Licorice Pizza — also stars Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris. PTA is also known for directing widely-acclaimed films such as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk-Love, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, and Phantom Thread.

Check out the first full official trailer for One Battle After Another, which opens in theaters on September 26, below.
