The Idol star Lily-Rose Depp is defending the bevy of adult film scenes in the series, many of which feature her character Jocelyn.

The highly-publicized HBO series, which is the worst-reviewed in the history of the esteemed network, will be coming to an end this Sunday after just five episodes, and it’s currently unclear if it will be renewed for a second season.

Despite this, Depp is still standing by her show, saying that she knows it’s provocative but that she also believes it’s a reflection of the fact that we live in a “highly sexualized world.”

“We know that we’re making something provocative and we are not shying away from that. That’s something I knew I was setting out to do from the beginning. “ was never interested in making something puritanical. It’s OK if this show isn’t for everyone and that’s fine — I think all the best art is [polarizing],” Depp told Vogue Australia in a recent interview.

“When it comes to the nudity and the risqué nature of the role, that to me was really intentional. That was really important to me and something that I was excited about doing. I’m not scared of it. I think we live in a highly sexualized world. I think that’s an interesting thing to explore.”

As mentioned above, there is no official word on whether or not a second season of The Idol will happen. A few weeks ago, a report — which also alleged that co-star The Weeknd acted “maniacal” on set — indicated that the network was not going to renew the series.

That report gained some much traction within the pop culture world that HBO put out a statement through their PR team, stating that a decision on the show’s future had yet to be made.

In addition to Lily-Rose Depp and The Weekend, The Idol — created by Euphoria director Sam Levinson — stars Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Hank Azaria, Tyson Ritter, Anne Heche, and more.

The fifth and final episode of The Idol‘s first season hit HBO and Max on Sunday, July 2 at 9 p.m. EST.
