If you were hoping to continue to follow along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe without investing in Disney+, Loki officially took that option off the table following its cataclysmic season one finale “For All Time. Always.”, which saw the MCU essentially become the MCM: the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.

Warning: spoilers for Episode 6 of Loki, “For All Time. Always.”, will follow.

Following the massively franchise-altering events of Loki, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently held a meeting with the “whole Marvel Studios team” in order to get everyone on the same page when it comes to the rules of the multiverse.

“As you indicated before we started recording, the multiverse is coming up in a big way,” Feige told the D23 Inside Disney podcast.

“There’s interconnectivity there that people have already started to see and suss out and I had a meeting this morning with the whole broad Marvel Studios team going through the multiverse and the rules of the multiverse and exactly how to really deliver on the excitement surrounding the multiverse.”

“Because like with so much with Marvel, that is a topic—when we first had Sam Jackson appear in a cameo at the end of Iron Man. I thought it would be a relatively small group of people that were excited by that and that we’d have to then educate a broader public about what that meant and who Nick Fury was, but almost instantly, if you remember, way back to the Summer of 2008: it ignited everyone’s imagination.” [via D23 Inside Disney]

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is, effectively, starting from scratch, as quite literally everything is on the table now. Just like there are far worse versions of Kang out there, there are variants of Tony Stark who survived the Endgame battle with Thanos, versions of Steve Rodgers who were thawed out of the ice 30 years sooner, and so on and so forth.

To be honest, It’s only fair to have questions given how extreme the idea of multiple realities is, so if you find yourself confused but what just happened and what’s to come, make sure you check out our full breakdown where we dive into exactly who Kang the Conqueror is.
