You never know what you’re going to have to deal with when you work in the food service industry. However, most people are never going to have a day as eventful as a waiter in Spain who had to maneuver a bull that wandered into a café during the breakfast shift.

Bulls have been ingrained in the region we now know as Spain well before it became a country; there is evidence that prehistoric tribes on the Iberian Peninsula engaged in events similar to bullfights that are still a fairly popular (albeit controversial) attraction to this day.

The Running of the Bulls in Pamplona still attracts thousands of brave participants each year, and the country that adopts them as an unofficial national symbol is also home to a thriving cattle industry that is powered by the more than six million bovines within it borders.

That includes one massive mammal that calls Catalonia home and recently caused an expected scene at a café near the French border.

A bull wandered into a café in Spain before a waiter quickly showed it the door

According to 3Cat, approximately 20 people were dining at Bar Gusi, a café located in the town of Ribes de Freser, around 9:30 AM on Monday morning when an unexpected guest made its way through the front door: a bull that weighed close to 2,000 pounds.

That included an older couple that was about to sit down at a table when the bull skidded into the room and stared them down before a waiter calmly approached the animal, which thankfully declined to put up a fight after the employee started to guide it back to the entrance.

The bull was being watched over by a shepherd who said a drought in the region has driven the animals down from the mountains where they graze earlier than normal, and he suggested its decision to walk into the eatery stemmed from it being disoriented, saying, “He got confused, took all the wrong turns, and walked straight into the bar.”

At least it all worked out in the end.
