Following the announcement of Robert Pattinson’s casting as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman (rumored to be released sometime in 2021), fans’ attention immediately turned to the other side of the comic book movie coin — the villains.

Perhaps more so than any other comic book character or franchise, Batman’s rogues’ gallery is arguably as big of a box office draw as the Caped Crusader himself. Think about it like this: is The Dark Knight a Batman movie, or a Joker movie?

Are you eagerly awaiting Christian Bale’s Batman scenes, or on the edge of your seat for Heath Ledger’s Joker moments? Exactly.

So, given the weight that Batman’s rogues hold, fans are understandably eager to find out who Robert Pattinson will be squaring off against when his time to don the cape and cowl comes.

And according to GWW, fans are being rewarded with more than just one villain.

Building off the back of a story from The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the year, Geeks WorldWide is reporting that The Batman will feature the following iconic Dark Knight villains: Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, and Firefly.

Riddler, who has not been seen on the big screen since Jim Carrey’s ever-camp portrayal in 1995’s Batman Forever, is reportedly the main antagonist of the story.

Additionally, Penguin (previously portrayed by Danny DeVito in 1992’s Batman Returns) and Catwoman (previously brought to life by Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway) will be joined by Firefly, a lesser-known Batman villain who will be making his feature film debut.

At the time of this writing, none of the roles have been confirmed by Warner Bros., let alone officially cast. As for the production of the highly-anticipated DCEU flick, filming will begin sometime in 2020 with a goal of a United States release in June 2021.

While the DCEU got off to an extremely shaky start, recent entries such as Wonder WomanAquaman, and Shazam! have breathed new life into the franchise. Combine that with the talent currently attached to The Batman, and you have the makings of what could be a Batman movie that we all truly deserve.
