Matthew Perry, who hasn’t appeared in a movie or TV show since 2017, is back in a big way with his new book Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

The former Friends star has been spilling all sorts of secrets as juicy excerpts from his memoir have been flying around the internet.

In addition to revealing that he almost died in 2018 due to a drug overdose.

Perry admits in his book that at one point while filming Friends he was taking 55 Vicodin pills per day.

Another excerpt from Perry’s memoir, shared by Page Six this week, that addressed his drug use reveals how viewers can tell which drugs he was abusing throughout the show’s 10 year run.

“You can track the trajectory for my addiction if you gauge my weight from season to season,” Perry writes.

“When I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills. When I have a goatee, it’s lots of pills.”

In one case, immediately after filming his character Chandler Bing’s wedding to Monica Geller (played by Courteney Cox) he was “driven back to the treatment center … in a pickup truck helmed by a sober technician.”

Perry also revealed that his weight fluctuated over those 10 years between 128 pounds and 225 pounds depending on his level of drug use.

In another revelation from his book, Matthew Perry shared that he once made out with his co-star on the TV show Sydney, Valerie Bertinelli, while her husband Eddie Van Halen was passed out drunk beside them.

“I fell madly in love with Valerie Bertinelli, who was clearly in a troubled marriage,” he wrote, Page Six reported. “My crush was crushing; not only was she way out of my league, but she was also married to one of the most famous rock stars on the planet, Eddie Van Halen.”

Bertinelli, 62, took to TikTok on Wednesday in response to Perry’s admission, writing, “Anyone else misbehave in their 20’s and early 30’s? Are you mortified?”
