MMA Coach Fights Off Eight Knife-Wielding Muggers, But Not Before Getting Gashed Up

Quite possibly the most impassioned drunken conversation I’ve engaged in in recent memory was when this hypothetical was posed during a night out: Would you rather fight one dude who was bigger, stronger, and tougher than you or eight eighth grade boys of average stature. I chose to take on the eighth graders so as long as I have a wall to glue my back to. That way, the could not surround me and I could just helicopter swing them unconscious. Odds are, I’d probably get my ass kicked in either scenario, because I’m a lover and not a trained MMA fighter.

Louis Nicholson, a 22-year-old MMA coach in Essex, England, wouldn’t have much of a problem with either, evident in his recent brouhaha with eight knife-wielding thugs. Not eighth graders, grown ass men.

Nicholson was reportedly walking alone walking down a street in Grays, England in broad daylight when a gang of dudes came over to him and demanded he give them his phone.

The trained MMA fighter, who ended up in the hospital with stab wounds in his armpit and a gash in his arm that required stitches, tells the story from a hospital bed:

“I’m minding my business when eight people decide they wanted to liberate my hard-earned possessions from me,” Nicholson said.

“Long story short I said I was ready to fight them because I was not going to give them my things — it was probably a stupid move, I realize that now. So anyway, we start fighting — it was one person against eight, bearing in mind.

“I was doing my best to keep them at bay, I even managed to punch two of them in the face, so they dropped to the floor. Only after they had already attacked me though of course. Anyway, at this point, the absolute cowards decide eight versus one isn’t a big enough advantage for them.

“So they pull out their blades and start stabbing and slashing at me while I’m trying to fight off the others.”

“I had to fight them all the way down the road about [300 feet] to get to the Metalworks,” he said.

The robbers ended up fleeing the scene after Nicholson yelled for people in the building to call the police.

“I have to say though that with zero shadow of a doubt martial arts saved my life.

“I would not be here if not for being able to create space and get out of there.

“So honestly get your kids trained in martial arts, I can not stress it enough, it is literally a matter of life and death – stay safe everyone.”

Police are reportedly calling for any information on the attackers.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
