With the long-awaited release of Disney+ finally upon us, not only have fans been given the gift of being able to watch Avengers: Endgame whenever they want, but they also got their first look at additional features and extras, including a deleted scene that shows Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) as a grown-up version of Tony’s daughter Morgan.
The scene takes place in the same dimension that Thanos is sent to after he snaps his gauntlet-covered fingers at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Upon arrival, Thanos is greeted by a young version of his “daughter” Gamora, who asks him what it cost. Thanos, famously and almost regretfully, says “everything.”
Conversely, in Iron Man’s version in the deleted Endgame scene, Tony — while still conflicted — is clearly in a much more peaceful mental state than Thanos was, as he’s welcomed by an adult version of his daughter, who insists that she’s happy and reaffirms his universe saving decision.
The scene is on Disney+ with director’s commentary from the Russo Brothers, and they explain that while the scene was intended to be emotional and cathartic, it didn’t achieve this for multiple purposes. For starters, the scene was too similar to when Tony gives his own eulogy via his hologram. Second, they found that including it created a symptom of “too many endings” when you keep trying to hit a resolution, but it just makes the film longer. Finally, viewers would have no emotional connection to the adult Morgan since they had never seen her before. [via Collider]
