Mountain Dew Is Selling Its Weirdest Flavor Yet For The Holiday Season

Mountain Dew Releases Fruitcake Flavor Ahead Of Holidays

It’s safe to say Mountain Dew has come a long way since the original recipe was whipped up in the 1940s by a couple of people in Tennessee who were on the hunt for a new mixer for whiskey.

There are certainly still people who have a tendency to pair the soft drink with hard liquor (the brand also catered to consumers looking for a more streamlined option when it unleashed a boozy version on an unsuspecting world earlier this year). However, its target demographic has definitely shifted over the decades as it’s dreamed up new ways to cater to soda aficionados.

That includes the many different flavors that have been added to its lineup, ranging from staples like Code Red and Baja Blast to more outside-of-the-box options like the Flamin’ Hot variety that doesn’t really have any business being as good as it is.

We (mercifully) don’t live in a world where Pumpkin Spice Mountain Dew is a thing. However, the brand has also rolled out a number of limited-edition offerings to coincide with certain seasons. That includes the mystery “VooDew” option it’s dropped ahead of Halloween the past few years, but I’m not sure if there’s ever been a flavor more intriguing than the one that’s been spotted in the wild as we inch closer to the winter holidays.

Mountain Dew is hoping fans will want to celebrate the holidays with the help of a fruitcake-flavored soda

Most people associate the Christmas season with beverages like hot chocolate and eggnog, but this year, you’ll have a chance to expand your horizons with the help of a new Mountain Dew variety inspired by a fairly divisive December staple: fruitcake.

I’m not sure if there were a lot of people out there who were craving a soda designed to capture the essence of a spicy baked good filled with (and adorned by) buts and dried fruit. However, if that sounds like something that’s up your alley, then you’ll want to keep an eye out for the bottles that are slowly but surely rolling out as the temperature begins to dip.

One person who stumbled across what has been officially dubbed “MTN DEW Fruit Quake” at a store in Pittsburgh didn’t exactly laud it with praise in an Instagram post where they gave it a 0/10 and said  “it tasted how Michaels craft stores smell.” With that said,  a Reddit user who posted their thoughts after finding it at a Sheetz in Pennsylvania was a bit higher on the offering that garnered an 8/10 on their personal scale.

It’s worth noting Moutain Dew hasn’t officially announced the release of Fruit Quake as of this writing, but it’s likely only a matter of time until that changes and it starts popping up in even more locations.
