Two Australian friends realized that legends live forever and set about breaking a Guinness World Record that will live in infamy until the end of time (or until the record is broken).

Harry Kooros and Jake Loiterton, both 26, just set a new Guinness World Record for the most pubs visited in 24 hours after visiting a whopping 99 pubs in one day. And they got off to an inauspicious start with Harry losing his lunch just 2 hours into their attempt as a rude awakening of just how difficult it would be put down a drink at every pub.

But he rallied and GWR has now announced them as the new record holders, breaking the previous record of 78 pubs in 24 hours that was set in 2022 by Heinrich de Villiers. This has been a very popular world record in recent years as dudes see this and think ‘I can absolutely do that’ and get out to attempt it.

Their record wasn’t all about getting their names in the GWR book, however. They also did it to raise money for MS Australia, a multiple-sclerosis research non-profit, and to help regain buzz around Sydney nightlife which they say was ‘decimated’ over the past 10 years due to legislation targeting their right to party and health restrictions following 2020.

Harry Kooros told GWR “We wanted to try to reignite the spark in a declining piece of what makes Sydney so great.”

New Guinness World Record For Most Pubs Visited In 24 Hours

How it all went down:

  • It began at midnight with most bars in Sydney closing at 2 AM
  • Harry was vomiting by 2 AM
  • No late-night taxis in Sydney meant they mostly walked between pubs
  • They took a break from 5 AM to 9 AM
  • No more than 14 minutes was spent between drinks, including travel time, getting ID’d, ordering drinks, and drinking their drinks
  • They broke the previous world record of 78 pubs in 24 hours in the early evening
  • Their goal was 100 pubs in 24 hours
  • They actually thought they reached 100 pubs in 24 hours but miscounted
  • Harry and Jake spent a total of $990 on drinks (1,500 Australian dollars)

If you’re like me, you’re immediately wondering what they were drinking at every pub. 100 beers in 24 hours is possible for someone like Andre the Giant but it isn’t realistic for mere mortals.

Harry explained their drink strategy to GWR, saying they’d initially planned to have an alcoholic drink (didn’t specify beer or mixed) at every other pub and they’d order non-alcoholic drinks at the alternating in between pubs.

As responsible fellas, they recognized ‘Sydney’s strict intoxication laws’ would loom heavy should they each put down 50 alcoholic drinks in 24 hours and it would also put them at risk of not being allowed into certain establishments. They didn’t specify how many non-alcoholic drinks they ordered but it was more than 50%, to be sure.

It also sounds like they struggled holding down the ‘fizzy drinks’ like sodas, according to Harry. He told GWR “ake was much better at holding down the large amount of liquid we needed to, so he wasn’t too fazed by fizzy drinks. I, on the other hand, struggled a lot with fizzy drinks.”

Breaking the seal too early…

Consuming 100 drinks in 24 hours is a LOT of liquid for the body to process. Harry said that by 12 hours into the challenge, at least one of them had to use the restroom at every single pub they went into to.

‘Breaking the seal’ is not a myth. I don’t care what anyone says. I’m not saying that this is proof that it’s not a myth but I’m saying once they started it was simply impossible to stop…even though they were obviously taking in more liquid everywhere they went.

As a side note, I would 100% be down to attempt to break this record alongside some BroBible colleagues and readers in the coming years. Anyone down?
