A bev cart girl has gone viral after sharing her biggest pet peeve: golfing tournaments that serve free drinks.
A bev cart girl has gone viral after sharing what happened when the golf course hosted a competition. But viewers mostly weren’t on her side.
Typically, cart girls make a lot in tips. But in these two videos, which had a combined viewership of over 2.5 million, Sydney Tolzman (@sydneytolzman) shares her pet peeve.
She begins the first video sitting in her cart. “A golf tournament and all the drinks are free?” she starts. “Yeah, sounds amazing unless you’re the cart girl. And every hole on the course has a drinks sponsor handing out free stuff.”
Tolzman then drives across the course and speaks to a drinks sponsor. They exchange pleasantries, and via on-screen captions, she notes, “These golfers all had free drinks in their hands.”
“You guys are probably all good?” she asks the golfers. As they confirm this, she nods disappointedly and drives on. Sad music plays in the background. However, toward the end of the video, she receives a tip, with a woman saying, “Probably not selling much today.”
“Probably not gonna be selling anything today,” the TikToker replies. “Those dang drink sponsors”
She later reveals to viewers that she got a $35 “pity tip.”
What’s A Bev Cart Girl’s ‘Worst Nightmare’? Free Drinks!
In the next video, it is more of the same. “Today is the type of day that’s every cart girl’s worst nightmare,” Tolzman says. “There’s a golf tournament going on, and all the drinks are free. So let’s see if I can sell anything today because almost every hole has a free drink sponsor on it just handing out free stuff all day, so let’s hope some people actually want to support me today.”
One golfer asks her what she has, but Tolzman clarifies that she isn’t part of the free drinks initiative, noting, “I actually work here to make money.”
She adds that she has stuff the sponsors don’t have, but the golfers say that they’re good.
A second customer asks if this is the “hospitality cart” or if they’d have to pay. Again, the TikToker explains that she is working and she doesn’t have “free stuff.” This makes the golfer drive on. At that point, she dejectedly rests her arm on the steering wheel.
But her fortune changes with a third customer.
“There’s so many drinks sponsors out right now, so I’m just trying to make sure people know that I’m not affiliated with them,” Tolzman says.
The golfer replies, “Well, we want to support you, too. How’s that?”
Gratefully, the TikToker thanks them.

Viewers Are Unimpressed
Across the two videos, commenters weren’t happy with the TikToker’s response, with many accusing her of having an “attitude.”
“How are you not fired this is horrible behavior?” one wrote.
“As a cart girl…what are you doing girl?” a second asked.
A third said, “Don’t be rude to them. It makes sense that they go for free drinks. You would do that too.”
Meanwhile, a fellow cart girl remarked, “Weird because when I worked at a golf course i made the most money off of tournaments by being nice, I made 500$ in like 5 hours it was the best.”
And a fourth noted, “Girl it’s your attitude and vibe. Be pleasant and even if they don’t buy then and there, they’ll remember you for next time. You go in defeated and upset and it’s uncomfy.”
In response, the TikToker said, “I agree my attitude should’ve been better. I should’ve been like how I usually am in all my other bev cart videos.”
Are Bev Cart Girls Going Extinct?
With drink sponsors and the tendency to bring your own food to golf courses, some may argue that beverage cart girls as we know them are going “extinct”—even though, arguably, it benefits golf courses to have one.
In a Reddit post, one user said, “Over the last two years, I would say more than 50% of my rounds there is no cart girl on the course. I’d argue that I’d spend at least $10-$20 a round if they had one. A busy public course would have 200 golfers on a busy weekend, so I don’t think it’s crazy to say they’re foregoing $1k-$2k of daily sales by not having one.”
“Am I losing my mind, or is it really that hard to hire a cart girl?” they added.
In response, users discussed the gendered position and brought up examples on non-traditional beverage cart servers.
“S—, I’ll do it for free golf,” one wrote. “Why does it have to be a pretty girl? Just throw some dude out there to drive around beers and water for the players.”
“The best cart girl I’ve ever had was a retired old man at Indian Wells,” another shared. “He said ‘I’ll see you every four holes, no matter what’ and sure enough we saw him every four holes like clockwork.”
Similarly, a third said, “We had a guy do the cart 2 days a week. He was this hilarious dude from Boston (we were in MD) and he would bust balls and give tips and was just fun af and made as much if not more than the hot girls.”
So, ultimately, while the demand might be there for cart servers, the rise of ‘cart guys’ suggests that “cart girls” as we know it might be becoming rarer.
