The Pentagon released dozens of UFO files on Friday. The files, which date back almost 80 years, include several never-before-seen videos, photos and documents related to UFO sightings.
Perhaps not coincidentally, this release of UFO files comes just a few days after former President Barack Obama said current President Donald Trump wouldn’t be releasing anything revelatory.
“This idea of conspiracy theories, if there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about, seen, photographs, what have you … I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her,” Obama told Stephen Colbert. “There would be leaks.”
Trump had said he would be releasing files from a Pentagon study on UFOs “very, very soon,” back in mid-April. Last week at a White House event celebrating NASA astronauts, Donald Trump was still making promises about the disclosure of UFO-related files. On Friday, he delivered, sort of.
“Today, the Department of War announced the initial release of new, never-before-seen files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE),” the U.S. Department of War said on X.
“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also wrote on X. “This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.
The new database, housed at war.gov/ufo, now contains information on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (or UAPs, which is what the government is now calling UFOs). Additional files will reportedly be released by the Department of War on a rolling basis.
What’s In The UFO Files And Videos Released By The Pentagon?
Among the previously classified files that were released are videos of strange-looking objects captured in the skies over Greece, Iraq, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. The files also include intelligence reports and FBI case files, including apparent eyewitness accounts and public reports about potential sightings over the years.
The files also include FBI interviews, archived State Department records, and NASA mission transcripts.
In one NASA transcript, Apollo 17 astronauts report “very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver.” Three dots appear to hover in a triangle above the moon’s surface in an accompanying photo.
Sadly, as former President Barack Obama predicted, there are no images of little green men, alien autopsies, or anything at all that confirms the existence of alien spacecraft or evidence of extraterrestrial life.
