Quentin Tarantino is not only one of the best directors of the last 30 years or so, but he’s also one of the most original, as none of his films — other than Kill Bill: Vol. 2 — have been sequels and all of his films have been original stories.

And yet, despite this, 45-year-old Instagram influencer — who says that he lost $2 billion in one day as a result of getting dropped by various partners following his string of anti-Semitic comments — recently claimed that he gave the idea of Django Unchained to Tarantino years before the movie hit theaters in 2012.

“Tarantino can write a movie about slavery where – actually him and Jamie, they got the idea from me because the idea for Django, I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger,’” West said on Piers Morgan Uncensored (nightmare blunt rotation). “And then Tarantino turned it into a film.”

As we pointed out in our original article, what makes Kanye’s claim particularly absurd is the fact that Jamie Foxx wasn’t even Tarantino’s first choice for the titular role — Will Smith was, and he famously turned it down.

Quentin Tarantino addresses Kanye West’s claim that he actually came up with the idea for Django Unchained and laughs it off like a champ

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Tarantino was asked about being roped into one of Kanye’s off-the-rocker rants and Tarantino handled it like a champ as he both denied Kanye’s version of events while also giving the former rapper some semblance of credit:

“That didn’t happen,” Tarantino said of Kanye’s claims on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“I’d had the idea for ‘Django’ for a while before I ever met Kanye. He wanted to do a giant movie version of ‘The College Dropout’ … movies based on each of the different tracks … he’s a slave and he’s singing ‘Gold Digger.’… It was a really, really funny idea.”
