Fans of the hit show Workaholics received bad news on the future of the outfit. On Monday, it was revealed that plans for an upcoming movie were cancelled.

The reports come just weeks before filming was set to take place, and it has many on social media upset with the decision.

Adam Devine, one of the stars of the show, posted a message on his Instagram page to key followers in on the disappointing development.

Welp, Paramount + decided to cancel the Workaholics movie. Obviously, this news is the loosest butthole. We were supposed to begin filming in 5 weeks! P + told us don’t fit their new “global” strategy…We are deeply butt hurt about this decision because we were so excited to bring the weird one last time. I’m butt hurt that I don’t get to work with my best friends again. I’m butt hurt for the fans, and I’m butt hurt for our loyal crew, and other cast members who are now going to have to scramble to find new jobs. We are out to other streamers, and hopefully we will get to make this insanely fun movie somewhere else. Tomorrow tune into our podcast ‘This Is Important’ to hear us talk about it. As always, take it sleazy, and I’m out.

Devine, along with other members of the crew, seemed both upset and surprised by the cancellation. This movie has been in the works for more than two years. Vulture posted back in 2021 that Comedy Central was looking to get some of its old brands back together for reboots.

Workaholics was one of those selected, with eyes on the potential of a sequel series following the film.

The original cast of Workaholics are set to return for a movie about “what it’s like to work through the pandemic.” The film is being made with an eye toward a sequel series to the original. “You may begin to see the seeding of a next generation of cast for what a new Workaholics could look like,” an exec added.

After that original announcement, the project was pushed back by Paramount+. Now, the plug’s been pulled altogether.

As you can imagine with a show like Workaholics, its cult following flooded social media with reaction.

One person wrote, “My day can’t get any worse. Paramount Plus just canceled the Workaholics movie.”

Another fan said, “Workaholics movie announced early 2020 just to be pushed 3 years and then cancelled… Paramount+, I’m coming for you.”

While Devine notes that he plans to shop the movie to other streaming services, it’s disappointing news, for sure.
