The Newest Trailer For ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Proves The Game Will Be Finally Worth The Wait

It’s been eight years since the release of Red Dead Redemption, and while I’ve spent plenty of time wasting my life in San Andreas since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, I find myself continually coming back to the Deadwood of video games. As a result, I was all in when Rockstar announced they’d be releasing a sequel to their masterpiece in the fall of 2017.

Unfortunately, the company has as much of a reputation for delays as they do for their games. As a result, the release date was eventually moved to the spring of 2018. After teasing us with some gorgeous screenshots, Rockstar crushed the spirits of fans when they postponed the release yet again, but they’ve been benevolent enough to treat us to a couple of trailers along the way.

Unfortunately, the previous two previews served mostly as a vehicle to show off the impressive world that was built for the Red Dead Redemption 2, and while rumors have been swirling for years, we haven’t had much insight into the plot or the characters involved. That all changed today with the newest trailer, which confirms the game will revolve around the gang led by Dutch van der Linde that John Marsten— the protagonist from the original— was formerly a part of (along with his eventual wife).

Here’s the full plot summary via Rockstar:

After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

Pending any further disasters, Red Dead Redemption 2 will hit the PS4 and Xbox One (there’s still no word on a PC release) on October 26, 2018.
