Amusement park riders in Ocean City, New Jersey just south of Atlantic City were forced to endure misery as the ride got stuck and they were left dangling upside down for an extended period of time. Video footage (below) shows how tense the moments were with the riders pleading for help and one could be heard screaming ‘get me down!’ to anyone that would listen.
Amusement park rides are, in large part, extremely safe and reliable. But given the scope and scale of how many amusement park rides there are worldwide and how many times they are ridden each day there will issues, of course.
Riders Stuck Upside Down In Ocean City, New Jersey Plead For Help
Footage of the riders in New Jersey stuck upside down went viral in a hurry across social media. From there it was picked up by mainstream news outlets and has since been seen on Fox News and CBS News.
What seems to really impact viewers is how this could happen to literally anyone that boards a ride. That is the risk anyone takes when they buy a ticket to ride. According to ABC/CBS/FOX, the riders were left suspended upside down for 5 to 7 minutes before the ride eventually let them down. Nightmare fuel? It certainly is for some.
Back in June, riders were stuck 26 stories above Georgia when a Six Flags ride malfunctioned and left them dangling 300 feet in the air. One week before that, riders in Missouri had to be rescued from a Six Flags ride after they were left hanging 120 feet in the air for nearly three hours. In May, 8 people in Texas had to be rescued after they were stuck on a roller coaster for 4 hours and stuck 100 feet in the air.
In the grand scheme of things, being stuck hanging upside down for 7 minutes is miserable but I would take that over the cases above where riders were stuck on these rides for hours at a time.
