A new petition calling on Netflix and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat production company to donate proceeds from The Roast of Kevin Hart to the Floyd Family Center for Social Equity, established by George Floyd’s family, has racked up thousands of signatures.

Since being launched on the petition website MoveOn just a couple of days ago, the “Donate profits from Kevin Hart roast to the Floyd Family Center for Social Equity!” petition has racked up nearly 10,000 signatures.

Particular vitriol has been directed at Joe Rogan acolyte Tony Hinchcliffe, who is facing backlash for the remark about Floyd being in hell made during the Kevin Hart roast, which aired on Netflix on Sunday.

“The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe,” Hinchcliffe said.

This was not the first time that Hinchcliffe made a George Floyd joke, as he also made a joke about him during Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady, saying that Rob Gronkowski “looked like the final boss in George Floyd the video game.”

Terrence Floyd, George Floyd’s brother, said Kevin Hart and Netflix should’ve cut off Tony Hinchcliffe for his joke mocking Floyd’s murder.

“Tony Hinchcliffe and the team of primarily White writers for The Roast of Kevin Hart decided to make a disgusting and shameful joke about George’s murder. A joke that his daughter, family, and loved ones – still every day grieving – have to reckon with,” the petition reads.

“And it’s not the first joke about George Floyd’s murder Hinchcliffe has made, he made another joke about him during the Tom Brady Roast a few years ago. Netflix and Kevin Hart knew exactly what they were doing when they platformed Hinchcliffe. But we’re not laughing. We demand more than an apology. We demand reparations.”

Neither Hinchcliffe nor Hart has made a public statement about the backlash to Hinchcliffe’s joke about George Floyd.
