Robert Saleh Admits Aaron Rodgers’ Reason To Return Is Largely About Himself

Even though the New York Jets season is all but dead and buried with their record currently sitting at 4-7, the team has been injected with a dose of positivity thanks to the return of Aaron Rodgers.

On Wednesday, just three months after allegedly tearing his achilles — some fans are now suspect of that fact given the speed of Rodgers’ return to the field — the future Hall of Fame quarterback suited up from Jets practice in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Speaking to reporters about Rodgers’ resurrection from the sideline, Jets head coach Robert Saleh was understandably giddy given how miserable the season has been without him, forcing him to play Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle at the quarterback position.

“I think it’s a credit to him. I know we’re getting caught up in trying to create a narrative around it but the true narrative is he’s old school in the sense that he is driven. Is there motivation to be the first to ever do it? Sure. That’s okay. That’s his why. It’s a mentality that I think young guys should be able to grasp [on] to. He loves this organization, he wants to be with his teammates, he wants to be here,” Saleh said.

“He’s sacrificed so much already for the organization, and himself, and his teammates, and he’s doing it again. I think it’s a testament to who he is as a human. Obviously, there’s a little bit of that drive that he wants to prove it can be done faster than anyone’s ever done it before. That’s okay, that’s just part of his mental makeup.”

According to Rodgers, his return to an actual game will depend on whether or not the Jets are in playoff contention, which looks seriously unlikely following a three-game losing streak.
