The Internet has gone wild for an alleged Shrek 5 announcement that is approaching the realm of ‘conspiracy theory’ due to how the announcement came about.
On Wednesday, the Shrek-loving world lost their minds when the supposed Shrek 5 announcement dropped. ‘Shrek 5 Announcement’ was even trending on X, formerly known as Twitter. A little digging turned up what this announcement was all about it and it came from an NBCU intern’s resume who listed the project under their work history.
To be clear, the Shrek 5 announcement is not confirmed. But TMZ posted a screenshot of the supposed NBCU intern’s LinkedIn resume.
The listing on the LinkedIn resume shows: -SHREK 5 (DreamWorks Animation 2025). On the resume, that entry under a section titled ‘Generated Consumer Product Ideas For The Following Projects.’
Without any confirmation from DreamWorks, the Internet quickly ran with this under the assumption that Shrek 5 will be released in 2025. According to TMZ, the NBCU intern’s profile was tweaked and the Shrek 5 announcement was scrubbed from their profile after the news gained steam.
There is an IMDB listing for Shrek 5 (2019). Obviously, that never happened. The project has been rumored to be in the works for years. All of the original/main cast members are listed on that defunct 2019 profile.
It remains to be seen if DreamWorks will employ the real-life Shrek Swamp House to promote Shrek 5 leading up to the 2025 release. The Airbnb was able to be rented for 2-night stays but reservations are impossible to snag.
Initial dates listed by Airbnb host ‘Donkey’ were October 27th and 29th. It looked like singer Rita Ora snagged one of the reservations as she posted pictures of her cosplaying as Princess Fiona in front of Shrek’s Swamp House.
Without getting ahead of ourselves, she seems like a perfect addition to Shrek 5.
Mike Myers hasn’t posted on Instagram since May 2022. So his social media hasn’t been much help while tracking down any details regarding the Shrek 5 announcement.
