Shrek’s Swamp House (Complete With An Outhouse) Can Now Be Rented On Airbnb

Shrek outhouse

Dreamworks

In 2001, moviegoers were introduced to Shrek, the ogre who resides in a house in the swamp that serves as the backdrop for an opening scene complemented by the musical stylings of Smash Mouth—a residence that a few lucky fans will have the chance to stay at courtesy of Airbnb.

When you consider Shrek is an animated movie that takes place in a fictional world overflowing with creatures from various fairy tales, I sincerely hope I don’t need to remind you that the swamp he calls home (and the house where he lives) was not, in fact, a real place.

However, more than 20 years after the original film hit theaters, the folks at Dreamworks have linked up with Airbnb to recreate Shrek’s domicile in Scotland, as visitors who are lucky enough to snag a two-night stay on the property will get the chance to immerse themselves in the eponymous ogre’s domain.

According to the listing, a single stay for up to three guests will be up for grabs when booking officially opens up at 10 A.M. PDT on October 13th.

Donkey (who is officially listed as the host) has been kind enough to charge a grand total of $0 for a stay in Shrek’s house between October 27th and 29th, although anyone who does make the trek will have to cover the travel expenses required to get to a somewhat remote area of the Scottish Highlands.

However, once you arrive, you’ll be able to get some ambiance with the help of an earwax candle, take advantage of the waffles Donkey will presumably be preparing for breakfast, and even get the chance to do your business in Shrek’s outhouse when nature calls.

This isn’t the first time Airbnb has pulled a similar move, as the mansion from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the Chicago home where Home Alone was set have also popped up on the platform.
