Leaked ‘Space Jam 2’ Photos Tease Appearances From Joker, Pennywise, The Mask And More

Warner Bros.

To quote Calvin Candie from Django Unchained, first Space Jam 2 had my curiosity, but now it has my undivided attention.

Yesterday, I brought you the news that a leaked image of Jim Carrey’s iconic character from The Mask seemingly confirmed reports that he would be appearing in the upcoming Space Jam sequel. Now, further leaks seem to confirm the appearance of other Warner Bros. owned characters such as Joker, Pennywise, The Wicked Witch of the West, and whoever the hell else appears to be in the bottom right image — you guess is as good as mine.

As you can see, The Mask is wearing a referee shirt, meaning that there is a chance these characters may actually have a role in the film beyond simply shoehorned cameos. Given the massive growth of “cinematic universes” in the years since the original Space Jam was released, it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. is trying to jam pack the sequel with as many noteworthy characters as possible.

While I wasn’t necessarily “looking forward” to Space Jam 2, I’m certainly intrigued now, as a Ready Player One-like approach is something that I hadn’t previously considered and honestly quite enjoy.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip and Night School)., Space Jam 2 will star LeBron James, Don Cheadle, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davos, Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike. At this time, Space Jam 2 is set to hit theaters in the United States on Friday, July 16, 2021.
