June is Pride Month and Nickelodeon tweeted their support for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies by making a major – but not that shocking – announcement on Twitter.

SpongeBob SquarePants might be gay. Maybe.

Nickelodeon made the semi-reveal in a tweet by attaching photos of three of their most popular characters as a clear indicator that they’re all part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The characters – Schwoz Schwartz from “Henry Danger”, Korra from the “Avatar” spin-off show “Legend of Korra”, and the Crabby Patty cook from bikini bottom are picturing in front of a rainbow-colored background.

The tweet reads:

“Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month 🌈.⁣”

In 2005, SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg explicitly said SpongeBob is NOT gay but asexual.

”We never intended them (SpongeBob and Patrick) to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We’re just trying to be funny, and this has got nothing to do with the show.”

“Legend of Korra” fans have known about Korra being bisexual after it was written into a script.

The actor who plays Schwoz – Michael D. Cohen — is a transgender man in real life.

The reaction to SpongeBob maybe, possibly, coming out were overwhelmingly supportive with many fans not surprised at all

More than few SpongeBob stans were quick to remind people Mr. Squarepants isn’t gay – he’s asexual – because people love being right.
