Following their epic D23 Expo over the weekend that saw Disney announce a bevy of new Marvel Studios and Disney+ projects — including the first trailer for The Mandalorian — Disney has dropped a new epic, multiple-decade-spanning trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Here’s the official, albeit admittedly vague synopsis for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker:

The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will conclude the iconic “Skywalker Saga”, which began all the way back in 1977 with Star Wars: A New Hope.

Featuring an ensemble cast, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker features Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell.

Additionally, it will star Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, and the late Carrie Fisher in her final film performance.

Not only did Disney drop a new special trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, but they also released a new poster for the film:

Following Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Disney will be taking a brief break from the galaxy far, far away, with the next Star Wars film — helmed by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss — set to be released in theaters in the year 2022.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released in theaters on Friday, December 20, 2019.
