One of the most legendary supermodels of all time, Claudia Schiffer, resurfaced on Instagram again this week with some new bikini pics for her 53rd birthday.

Schiffer was one of the biggest models in the world in 1980s and 1990s, thanks in large part to her iconic series of photographs for Guess? jeans and becoming the face of French luxury fashion house Chanel.

She, along with other models like Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Tatjana Patitz, and Kate Moss, were the impetus behind the term “supermodel” coming into wide use in the 1990s.

It was around that time that models such as those listed above became more prominent in roles outside of fashion.

Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista, Turlington and Schiffer were referred to as “The Big Five” in the 1990s, with Moss being added to the group, making it “The Big Six.”

“Those girls were so fabulous for fashion and totally reflected that time … [They] were like movie stars,” Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour said in the 2006 book In Vogue: The Illustrated History of the World’s Most Famous Fashion Magazine.

Schiffer, Crawford, Turlington and Macpherson became so famous in the 1990s that they opened a international restaurant chain of restaurants called the Fashion Cafe – their own take on the trend at the time started by Planet Hollywood and the Hard Rock Cafe.

It was around that time that she famously married magician David Copperfield in 1994. The couple divorced in 1999.

Claudia Schiffer would go on to appear on more than 1,000 magazine covers.

Now 53-years-old, Claudia Schiffer showed that she is still in fantastic shape with a new video and some photos she posted to her Instagram account with the description, “Celebrating in Greek paradise, featuring a special friend who came to wish me happy birthday.”
